Shopping and Money

Please think of this as bookkeeping, not distrust. Pay with your Octopus card, keep the receipts, and check with us before anything large — then neither of us ever has to wonder where the money went.

5.1What we usually buy

Cleaning
Check weekly

Washing-up liquid, laundry detergent, softener, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner, disinfectant, cloths, sponges, bin bags, gloves.

Paper goods 纸品
Under a week's worth

Tissues, toilet rolls, kitchen roll, wet wipes.

Food 食材
With the weekly menu

Vegetables, meat, eggs, rice and flour, sauces and seasoning, cooking oil.

Shared toiletries
When nearly out

Hand wash, soap — for the household, not personal.

Your own things

Your personal items — shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, skincare, snacks, your own clothes — are yours to buy with your own money, and we will not put them on the household list. Likewise, please do not buy them on our account. And when you head out on your rest day, we would be grateful if you could cover your own spending then too — ideally without using the household Octopus card.

5.2How we handle the money

A cash limit per trip

Anything up to HK$100 in cash you can just buy. Anything over that, please message us first and wait for a yes. If it is genuinely urgent, go ahead and buy it — then tell us the same day.

Pay by Octopus

Please pay for household shopping with your Octopus card — that is our usual way. Keep a little cash for emergencies, but use the Octopus first, and tell us before you use cash.

Keep the receipts

Please keep the receipt or slip for anything you buy, and ask for one wherever you can — it makes everything easy to check later.

Topping up 充值

We top up your Octopus regularly. If the balance runs low, tell us straight away — we have a WhatsApp group — and we will top it up, so you never have to pay from your own money.

The usual places

Please use the shops and the delivery app we have set up. If you would like to try somewhere else, just ask first.

Buy what is good value

Pick what is decent for the price — there is no need to go for the most expensive option. And please do not stock up so much that things spoil.

The one thing we cannot accept

Falsifying a price or a receipt, buying on someone else's behalf, or dipping into the household money. This would mean ending the arrangement straight away, so please always ask if you are unsure.

5.3The weekly sheet

Where the money notes go 账目都记在这一页

Please use the printed sheet on the fridge. If you jot something down in a phone note while you are out, that is fine — just remember to fill it onto the sheet when you are back, so it all stays in one place.

Each line 每一行
